An insurer will insure you according to how much ‘risk’ you present
to them. Most people are aware of the factors that influence their car insurance premiums such as the type of
vehicle and the age of the driver. But you may not be aware that your job, your street, your marital status
and even your smoking habits can also affect your premium.
Premiums fall if your car is locked away, preferably in a garage nearby your home address and therefor not exposed to either
the elements or the passerby. This decreases the likelyhood of theft. Parking on your personal drive at home is also a good way to help
keep your premiums down, although this is not a given and many insurers will not offer you a substantial discount for doing so. As
usual the golden rule is to ask your insurance company. Safety and security features such as alarms, immobilisers, steering locks and
tracking devices will reduce your premium. Use secure parking such as a garage or off street parking if you can even if it has no
bearing on the price you pay for your car insurance. |
